Each Dublett consists of a new artist’s book and an anthology of commissioned texts. These twin publications focus on an artist’s practice, an artistic collaboration or an artistic project. The Dublett series is initiated by Hordaland Art Centre. Dublett is designed by Anti/Grandpeople, and supported by Hordaland County Council’s Cultural Development Programme, Arts Council Norway and City of Bergen.

FOREWORD
Dublett (Norwegian for ‘doublet’) is a book series that provides insight into prominent contemporary art. Each edition of Dublett has two parts: one part is an artist’s book, that is, a work of art in book form created especially for the given publication. The editors have encour- aged the artists to use the book format as they wish, so that the publication represents a distinct work of art in their oeuvre. The other part consists of a collection of commissioned essays on the artist or project at hand, written specifically for Dublett by contributors from a variety of disciplines. Dublett is published bilingually, thereby making its contents available to readers who understand either the Scandi- navian languages or English.
The idea behind this format is to shed light on artistic activity in real time, so to speak. We collaborate closely with the artists to pro- vide them with an opportunity to actively participate in the contextua- lisation of their own work. Through Dublett we thereby explore the artistic endeavour as it unfolds, rather than canonising it retrospectively. The artists being presented in this series are continuing to explore their potential.
The series is published by Hordaland Art Centre. The Art Centre’s core tasks include presenting contemporary art, increasing knowledge of such art, and cultivation of professional art mediation. Dublett is rooted in the county of Hordaland and focuses on artists and projects that in some way are affiliated with the region.
